Thinkingcap business issues
A modern business parable
Consultancy - a broken paradigm?
26th April, 2004
Part I
- In the beginning, people in business worked a lot - it was tough.
- To make things easier, smart people innovated using technology.
- Non-innovators copied innovators - they employed consultants
who had learned from innovators.
- Consultants were perceived as valuable and their rewards increased.
Part II
- The supply of experienced consultants could not meet demand.
- Soon, anyone who could talk and read became a consultant.
- In good times, the lower quality of advice went unnoticed; the
high fees ensured that only strong clients prospered.
- In bad times the consultancy market collapsed and consultants
had to get real jobs - it was tough.
Part III
- Now business people want solutions not help to find solutions.
- This is where we at Thinkingcap, and our Associates, come in.
We build solutions that are reviewed and revised rapidly until
they do exactly what is needed.
- You could say that we have cut out the middleman!
